Cricket – Bonus!

It was an early start for the boons as they made their way to Leroy Oval for the annual cricket showdown against Aquinas College. The girls kicked the day off with a team full of fresh faces. Bowling first, the girls held Aquinas to 4/38 from their 10 overs with every player contributing in the field with Lydia Schwartz, Sophie Glamuzina, Mabel Arbon, Chelsea Darkin, Paige McLean and Louise Hunter the stand outs. Tyla McNamara and Tayla Sismey dominated with the ball while Tjina Stoll supported the team strongly from the side lines. Then it was the Boons turn to bat with Jane Cullinan, Sophie Compton-Cook and Maci Wilsdon dominating with the bat to take St Ann’s to 1/39 off just 7.5 overs meaning the Boons were once again victorious in this one-off “Low Table Cup” event!

After a quick break the boys were up against a very strong Aquinas side. Some great bowling by Tom Graney, Tom Carlin and Corey Finlayson as well as sensational fielding from Jaxon Brand, Darcy Goldfinch and Tom Petty put the boys in a good position early. Aiden Creasey was fantastic behind the stumps, taking multiple run outs. The boys held Aquinas to 9/140 after 20 overs when they walked out to bat. Matthew Vincent, Caleb Scwartz and Kalan Hayes gave the Boons a sniff but the true MVP was Shaun Richards who bravely batted out the last 5 overs despite an Aquinas bouncer barrage. In the end the boys came up 40 runs short meaning Ann’s missed out on the double.

There was great support from the Boon army and a great day was had by all. A big thank you to all the Ann’s students who helped score, umpire, supply lunch and came along to cheer on the cricket boons.
